MED-ID BIPS

$65.00$460.00

BIPS are inert, white, low density, radiopaque, barium-impregnated polyethylene spheres. They have a density similar to food but are sufficiently radiodense to show clearly on abdominal radiographs. BIPS are packaged with an information booklet in a Dual Cap pack (one of each option below) and in bulk packs of 15 options – either comprising 15 Small Cap Options or 15 Large Cap Options.

Main Features

The two diagnostic options of BIPS are:

BIPS – DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Use BIPS to definitively diagnose gastrointestinal obstructions and motility disorders in cats and dogs without using liquid barium. Combined with x-rays and extensive university-based research, BIPS provide you with a safe, accurate diagnostic procedure – and reduce the need for exploratory surgery.

BIPS – ACCURATE DIAGNOSTICS

BIPS, or Barium Impregnated Polyethylene Spheres, now provide a range of diagnostic options which reduce the need to undertake exploratory surgery on cats and dogs. Combined with x-rays, spheres of two sizes are used to detect blockages and motility problems in the stomach and intestines. The spheres are administered in food (or by mouth) avoiding the problem of giving liquid barium by stomach tube and syringe. Unlike liquid barium the small sized BIPS behave in a similar way to food in the gut. As they can be counted and gut transit times compared with an average speed for healthy animals, the potential for more accurate diagnosis is greatly improved.

INDICATIONS

BIPS are indicated for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal obstructions and gastrointestinal motility disorders in dogs and cats. Specifically, BIPS are helpful in detecting physical obstructions (including partial obstructions), functional obstructions (ileus), delayed gastric emptying due to pyloric stenosis or gastric rhythm disturbances, overly rapid gastric emptying (dumping) and intestinal motility disorders.

FUNCTIONS

The primary functions of the large BIPS (5.0mm) is the detection of gastrointestinal (GI) tract obstructions. The small BIPS (1.5mm) mimic the passage of food, and their transit through the GI tract provides an accurate estimate of the gastric emptying rate and intestinal transit time of food. The Small Cap Option consists of 4 small gelatin capsules which are primarily formatted for administration to cats and small dogs. The Large Cap Option enables the same number of BIPS as in the Small Cap Option to be formatted as a single capsule for administration to large dogs or broken open and mixed with fibre diet.
