| 27.12.25 | Dannevirke Endurance Ride (NZ / FEI) | Struan Duncan / Makahiwi Adelaide |
At the second vet check, Struan Duncan’s mare Makahiwi Adelaide had a high heart rate. He managed her carefully from that point – not only did they complete the 100km ride, her heart rate improved. Excellent management from Struan, deserving of an award. (And Makahiwi Adelaide deserves the rug too.)

A few issues during a ride can really show how a rider manages and cares for their horse. The way Alexa Parker looked after Bellawongarah Isaac at the Tasmanian State Championships impressed Head Vet Alice Mitchell, and scored Alexa a Radincon Vets Choice Award too.

Congratulations to Hannah O’Neill riding Blakes Heaven Montezuma for earning The Radincon Vets Choice Award at the recent NSW State Championships.
Hannah and Zuma impressed the vets with their steady determination to finish the tough 160km ride.
Photo shows them back home and happy after the championships. It’s also fantastic to see other commenting on how well Hannah looks after Zuma – that consideration for the horses is just what we want to recognise with this Award.

2025 was a fantastic year for the WA State Championships, with every single rider who attempted the 160km course completing the full distance.
Zoe Chatfield on her 9 year old Arabian mare, Avon Sabre stood out for smart, steady riding. Patient and consistent, she brought Sabre to the finish in a time of 18 hours and 2 minutes, securing both the Radincon Vets Choice Award and 2nd Middleweight placing.
Congratulations to Zoe and Sabre, and a big thank you to the vet team: Drs Rita Perry, Kerri Jurgens, and Anne Barnes, who are also in the photo

The 400km Shazada Endurace Ride was only the third tim Jack Angwin and Currowan Music had partnered up, but that didn’t stop them winning the prestigious Radincon Vets Choice Award!
The vets praised Jack’s calm, consistent management as he guided Music through 14 hours 50 minutes of riding time over the three days of the competition. Music’s beautifully low heart rates were a sign of his impressive horsemanship.
Congratulations to both Jack and Music.

A double award at the QERA State Championships to mother and daughter Kaylea Maher and Bella Pshunov, who completed the AERA 160km course together.
2019 Tom Quilty Gold Cup winner Kaylea rode her homebred gelding Maluka Park Ashton alongside 12-year-old Bella on Mt Eerwah Solomon. The judges loved the way Bella looked after her mount, as well as the family spirit across the generations – for Kaylea, being with her daughter was more important than the time!
As an added bonus, Bella is now fully qualified to take part in the 2026 Tom Quilty Gold Cup. We’ll be keeping an eye out for her.

Congratulations to Charlotte Williamson and De-Sharvall El Dakar on their success at the Wonderful Widgee Endurance Ride.
They were part of the Spendacrest team of riders, all of whom completed the course. Not only that, they won the Best Conditioned Horse Award, and Charlotte completed qualification to represent Australia at the World Youth Championships in Buftea, Romania in September.

What do we love most about Kiana Nutting, our winner at the 2025 Tom Quilty Gold Cup?
The fact that she noticed her horse Acaciavej Schumi wasn’t quite himself, and was proactive with the vets to look after him. She took advice at the end of leg 3 and adjusted his management. End result – the vets said he looked better at the finish than he had after leg 3.
That’s spectacular care and horse management.
Congratulations to Kiana on her first Quilty buckle, on her first attempt, as well as exemplary care for her horse!

The Radincon Vets Choice Award went international at the Radincon ESNZ Endurance & CTR National Championships 2025! Congratulations to Grace Blyth for the way she managed her mount, Supre Zerlina, over the 160km distance.
Grace and Supre Zerlina were tackling their first ever 160km ride. At the second vet gate (80km), the mare showed early signs of back soreness. The vets cautioned that continuing would require careful management, so Grace made gear changes and rode off the mare’s back as much as possible. As a result, she and Supre Zerlina were among the 7 finishers out of a field of 13. Supre Zerlina was judged to be in sound condition, but Grace herself was very sore!
The vet panel unanimously agreed that this ride exemplified everything The Radincon Vets Choice Award stands for — prioritising the horse’s welfare above the rider’s own, and showing genuine respect for veterinary input by listening and responding to advice throughout the ride.

Gemma Touzell and Bullio England were deserving winners of The Radincon Vets Choice Award rug at Burrumbuttock.
Both ride vets were seriously impressed with this young stallion, praising not only his performance but also the professional way he’s being brought along by the team at Bullio. Georgie noted how well Gemma managed a challenge during the ride to ensure a strong and healthy finish – a sign of great horsemanship. Darien added that this was Bullio England’s third 80km and he’s showing real promise as a future endurance stallion.
We’re thrilled to recognise a partnership like this – thoughtful, well-managed, and clearly going places.

Kim Gaspari, riding Sakira Armani’s Secret, was the winner of The Radincon Vets Choice Award at the 80km Mt Lagoon ride.
A seasoned endurance competitor since the early 1990s, Kim caught the vets’ attention with her expert management of her Anglo Arabian mare, Armani.

Here’s a great shot of the first Radincon Vets Choice Award winner for the 2025 season – Razorback Annatolle.
In tough, hot conditions, expert horse management is everything, and you can see how well Nadine Barker looked after Annatolle.
